Background swap (photo edit): same prompt, different AI

Task: Replace the background of your own product or room photo. Below is the same job written the way each tool works best. All prompts are RuleStack originals (MIT). We describe how prompting differs, not which tool is "best": we haven't run benchmarks, and results change with every model update.

Note: Review and test before use. Provided as is, without warranty. See Terms.

ChatGPT Images (GPT Image / DALL·E)

Say what must not change; then refine in follow-up turns.

Prompt
Edit the attached photo: replace the background with [new background, e.g. a sunlit kitchen counter]. Keep the [product] exactly the same: shape, label, colors and size. Match the lighting direction and add a natural shadow.

Gemini Nano Banana / Imagen

Strong at keeping the subject consistent across edits.

Prompt
Using my uploaded photo, change only the background to [new background]. Do not alter the product. Match perspective and light so it looks like one photo.

Adobe Firefly

In Firefly or Photoshop, select the background first and describe only what goes there.

Prompt
Generative fill prompt for the selected background area: [new background description], soft natural light from the [left], realistic depth of field.

FLUX (Black Forest Labs)

Use a FLUX editing model or an app that supports reference editing for this.

Prompt
Replace the background behind the [product] with [new background]. Keep the product identical. Photorealistic, matching light and shadow.
